This is Latifa Belkas who made the rug below. She is about 20 years old and lives at home with her father and two brothers. She also has a sister, but she is married. Her father works in agriculture, and she gives her earnings from weaving to him. The rug took about a month to make, working by herself.

 

 

 

 

 

Piece 3.12778 is a colorful small pile rug in the Tazenakht style. The three central panels have a black background, and the ends a blue one. The design is in rich red, bright orange and white, with a few gray highlights. Notice a fragment of the popular lattice pattern in the central panel. You can see details better here. It does not lie totally flat, but a rug pad should solve that. This piece measures about 2'5" x 3'8" and costs $130.

 

 

 

 

 

This is Rehma Aznug. She made the two rugs on which she is sitting here working with her two sisters-in-law; you can see one below. She has two children, ages 5 and 7; another of her children died. In addition she cares for her husband's seven children from a previous marriage. Her husband is a farmer, and with the drought, they need the women's earnings from weaving to pay household expenses. She made all of the rugs below.

 

 

 

 

 

Piece 3.12764 is a medium-sized pile rug in the Tazenakht style. It is about 15 years old, and the wool has a sheen to it. The main colors are gray and a rich rusty red; the base of the central panel is navy blue. On the close-up you can see small ducks and chickens in the gray section. This piece measures about 3'6" x 7' and the price is $350.

 

 

 

 

 

Piece 3.12768 is in the Tazenakht style on a dark denim blue ground with a bit of abrash or color variation, one mark of a handmade rug. You can see it in the upper right corner of this detail, and also a chicken. The laciness of the white outlining the large diamonds is made up by small "hands." Other colors are a rich red and bright orange. This piece is about 17 years old and measures about 3'9" x 7' and it costs $420.

 

 

 

 

 

Piece 3.12766 is a medium-sized pile rug that is about 16 years old. It has five borders and three main panels. The two end panels are on a black ground, and the center one on dark blue, which is also in the outer border. The main color you see in this rug is a rich cherry red, with orange accents that are a bit subdued, and go nicely with the red. There is also a bit of natural gray in an inner border, made from spinning white and black wool together. You can see it in this close-up. This rug measures about 3'8" x 7'4" (112 x 225cm) and the price is $ 385.

 

 

 

 

Piece 3.12770 is a small pile rug with three panels. The ground color is a grayed navy blue on which the designs in white, rich red and orange stand out clearly, and the center panel is outlined in gray. You can see some of the fine detail in this close-up. The size is about 2'1" x 3'10" (63.5 x 117cm) and it costs $175.
