This is Saida Id Mansour and she made the rug below. She has four sons who range in age from four to twelve, and her husband is a shepherd. She has not been to school, but made the rug below herself in two months. It took that long because she probably did it alone, since she has no daughters to help her with either weaving or housework. If it sells, she will use the money to buy food and clothing for her children.

Piece 3.13597 is a medium flatweave in a clear red with a denim blue center and embroidered designs in red, black and orange. There is some color variation or abrash in the red which you can see most clearly in this detail. The size is 3'9" x 7' (114 x 213 cm) and it costs $350.

This is Fdila Ouakrim brought in the older rug below, made by her mother-in-law. Fdila is married and has five daughters ranging from seven to fourteen. All are in school except the eldest, who just left and now helps her mother. If the rug sells, Fdila will use the money for living expenses, and to build a new room onto her home.

Piece 3.13600 is a large pile rug in the Tazenakht style which was made about 40 years ago. You can see its resemblance in shape, design and colors to the other older pieces a few pages back. This one has no central panel but rather an overall design of flower-like diamonds. The main colors are a bright red with an orange cast, a not-too-bright orange, and white. Inside the diamonds are outlines in a soft yellow-green and blue-gray, which you can see on this close-up. It is in excellent condition except for a hole near one edge and the end, which perhaps you can also see near the top border in the close-up, but I'm not certain. It should not be too difficult to have it repaired. Fdila stressed how the rug was made of "country wool," that is from their own sheep and spun and dyed at home, instead of from wool bought at the market. This piece measures 4'8" x 9'10" (142 x 299 cm) and costs $1370.

This is Sheeto Igezzal Tamaktit whom you have seen before. She and two smaller rugs appear on earlier pages, where she is introduced as the grandmother of Samira, the preschool teacher. She made the rug below herself in about a month and a half about 15 years ago. She now lives with some of her grown children, and will help them buy food if the rug sells. She'd like to keep some money for herself too, to buy slippers, a blanket and a fleece housecoat for the cold weather. When I spoke to her after the winter, she said she had not bought the housecoat - all the money went for her family, mainly for food.

Piece 3.13606 is a somewhat older large knotted Tazenakht rug with a complex design of five symmetrical center panels plus four large and four narrow borders. You can see them best on this close-up. The main colors are red and a denim blue with accents in gray and yellow. The size is about 5' x 9'5" (152 x 286 cm) and the price is $600. SOLD

This is Ijja Ait Lehesnawi and she made the rug below. She has two small daughters, ages four and two. That means she has no help with weaving or housework, so she made the rug by herself in three months. Her husband is a farmer, and money from the rug will be spent on food and clothing for the children. When I pressed and asked if she'd like something for herself, she said yes, a housecoat (worn over clothing to keep warm in the winter) and a fancy gown to wear to wedding parties.

Piece 3.13609 is a medium pile rug in the Tazenakht style with more red and blue than is usual. The red is maroon and the blue a denim color, and there are accents in gold with a bit of soft olive green. You need to look at this detail to see the green, and you will also notice small birds, perhaps chickens. The size is about 3'10" x 7'1" (117 x 215 cm) and the price is $475. SOLD
